My recent participation in Basic Lab in Human Process (BLHP) organized by the Indian Society for Applied Behavioural Science (ISABS) in Bangalore in May 2024 was nothing short of transformative. Set against the backdrop of Bangalore’s welcoming and inclusive atmosphere, ISABS provided a nurturing environment where I embarked on a profound journey of self-discovery and interpersonal understanding.  Yes. You heard it right!

Under the guidance of my lab facilitators, each session of the Lab was meticulously designed to cultivate deep introspection and enhance group dynamics.

It’s called a lab because the training is like a laboratory in which you experiment with new or changed behaviour. From the outset, we were encouraged to embrace the present moment, focusing solely on our experiences within the lab session. This directive proved instrumental in allowing me to immerse myself fully in the learning process without the distractions of external influences or past narratives.

The facilitators’ adeptness in applied behavioural science was evident in their nuanced approach to guiding discussions and activities. They skilfully navigated group dynamics, fostering an inclusive space where every participant felt valued and empowered to contribute. They never judged us at all. That feel is so great and high and I felt it for the first time in my life. Like a scene in the movie ‘Mask’ where the heart pumps itself almost out of the body. I could feel the butterflies in me.

Through interactive and reflective conversations, I gained profound insights into my own behavioral patterns, communication styles, and emotional responses. The feedback I received from peers was particularly enlightening, unveiling to me facets of my personality that had previously escaped my awareness.

Beyond personal revelations, the lab made me realise  the significance of empathy and active listening in fostering genuine connections with others and within teams. It made me see MYSELF The facilitators’ emphasis on creating a non-judgmental environment allowed for authentic exchanges and mutual respect among participants. This basis/philosophy / practice/ ethics, not only enriched our collective learning experience but also instilled a deeper appreciation for diverse perspectives and collaborative problem-solving.

Moreover, ISABS’s commitment to experiential learning extended beyond theoretical exploration. Each lab session was strategically structured , equipping us with actionable insights applicable to both professional and personal domains. This holistic approach not only deepened my understanding of human behaviour but also equipped me with invaluable skills for navigating complex interpersonal dynamics in diverse settings.

In conclusion, my participation in the ISABS lab was a pivotal chapter in my professional and personal growth journey. It equipped me with a profound understanding of myself and others. I am deeply grateful to ISABS for curating such a transformative learning experience. I look forward to applying these newfound insights in my personal life and also in my professional role as a banker, where understanding human behavior is paramount to delivering exceptional customer service and fostering meaningful and enduring relationships.
